What is Commercial Vehicle Insurance?
This type of insurance is usually purchased for single vehicles, as multiple vehicles are often best insured under a Fleet insurance policy
Commercial Vehicle Insurance can be quoted completely bespoke to your individual business needs, with regards to driving requirements, estimated annual mileage and vehicle use.
What is Commercial Vehicle Insurance?
At its simplest, it is Motor Insurance for vehicles owned by a business and used for commercial purposes, which could be trucks, vans, pick-ups or more specialist types of vehicles such as ambulances, tractors, excavators, road sweepers, forklift trucks, dumper trucks and so on.
Why do I need Commercial Vehicle insurance?
Because motor insurance is a legal requirement in the UK and you cannot insure (most types of) commercial vehicle under any other sort of policy.
Do I need an O licence?
There are different types of operator licenses, but if your truck/wagon/lorry has a vehicle weight (gvw) in excess of 3.5 tons and you use it for trade or business purposes on a public highway, then yes, you will need an O licence, and we will need its details to get you insured. Does this type of policy cover the load too?
No, you’d need Goods in Transit for that. This type of policy simply covers the vehicle.
Are trailers included in a commercial vehicle policy?
Yes, providing you tell us about it. Any trailers will be automatically covered under this type of policy, including whilst detached.
Is windscreen included in a commercial vehicle policy?
Comprehensive policies automatically include windscreen cover subject to a policy excess and you paying the VAT if you are VAT registered.
Does a commercial vehicle policy have a No Claim Bonus?
This type of commercial vehicle policy (unlike a fleet insurance policy) does contain a No Claim Bonus clause. So, in theory, the more years you go without claiming, the cheaper your premium will be.
