What is Loss Recovery Insurance?

Loss Recovery Insurance is an optional additional insurance policy designed to pay for the fees/cost of engaging a Loss Assessor in the event of a serious claim around property and loss of income (business interruption) claims.

Clients are sometimes confused as to why they would need a loss assessor, and why it isn’t something that Prizm Solutions can offer as part of being an insurance broker.

Whilst we are excellent at broking an insurance policy (finding you the right policy at the right price) and we have a superb claims team, employing a loss assessor is just part of the industry’s way of dealing with large claims.

For larger losses, insurance companies always employ Loss Adjusters, so it’s important to involve a Loss Assessor to be able to liaise with the Loss Adjuster in relation to your loss.

Ask a Question How much does loss recovery insurance cost?

The cost of loss recovery insurance varies, as different insurers charge different amounts.

Most policies retail for less than £100 per annum, but at Prizm Solutions, we have some policies that cost as much as £5,000 because the insurance cost is linked to the size of the premium for the property being insured.

Questions we frequently get asked about loss recovery insurance

What happens if I don’t have loss recovery insurance?

If, in the case of a claim with a large loss, you decide it might be best to employ a Loss Assessor to act on your behalf, to help you get what you deserve as part of your claim, then it’s beneficial to have purchased loss recovery insurance in advance. If not, a Loss Assessor can charge you up to 10% of the value of the claim.

What is the difference between a Loss Adjuster and a Loss Assessor?

Both a Loss Adjuster and a Loss Assessor do the same job, the only difference is that one acts on behalf of the insurance company (the Adjuster) and the other on behalf of the insured client (the Assessor).

What size insurance claims start to involve loss recovery assessment?

It varies according to the policy wording, but most policies operate once a claim (total of damage and profits, where applicable) exceeds £5,000.

Does loss recovery insurance help with all types of insurance claims?

Loss recovery insurance is not involved when handling Motor, Liability, Marine Cargo or Terrorism claims. It is only there to provide specialist in-depth assistance with Property & Loss of Income (Business Interruption) claims.

What happens if I need to make a claim on my loss recovery insurance?

A loss under your primary policy will trigger a claim under this type of policy. As soon as we become aware that it is a serious matter, we will get a Loss Assessor appointed immediately.

Which insurance companies do you deal with?

Currently at Prizm Solutions we deal with Qlaims, DAS & Lorega, but this may change as insurers enter and exist this insurance market.
